Becoming Catholic at St Charles

A welcoming journey for anyone exploring faith, returning to Church, or thinking about becoming Catholic.

The journey of becoming Catholic is known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, often called RCIA. Through prayer, discussion and teaching, participants are gradually introduced to the beliefs, worship and life of the Catholic Church.

Sessions usually explore Scripture, prayer, the Sacraments, the meaning of the Mass, and what it means to live as a follower of Christ in today’s world. Along the way, each person is supported by the parish community, by sponsors who accompany them in faith, and by the pastoral guidance of Father Philip Cunnah.

For many people, this journey is life-changing. It is not only about learning information, but about discovering God’s love, meeting others, and finding a deeper sense of purpose and belonging.

The journey may lead to the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion, often celebrated at the Easter Vigil — one of the most beautiful and joyful moments in the Church’s year.

You may have been coming quietly to Mass for some time. You may have Catholic family or friends and want to understand their faith more deeply. You may have questions, doubts, hopes, or simply a sense that now is the time to explore.

Wherever you are starting from, you are welcome.

Our new series of Becoming Catholic meetings will begin soon at St Charles Borromeo Church. Everyone is welcome to attend the first evening simply to find out more.
