Encounter
Reflections by Johannes
Every one of us is on a journey.
Some have walked with Christ for many years. Others are taking their first uncertain steps. Some are returning after a long absence. Others are simply searching, wondering whether there is something more to life than the endless cycle of work, worry and routine.
Wherever you are on that journey, you are welcome here. The word encounter lies at the heart of the Christian faith.
Christianity is not first about rules, customs or traditions, important though they are. It begins with a person—Jesus Christ. Throughout the Gospels, lives were transformed because ordinary people encountered him. Fishermen left their nets. Tax collectors found a new purpose. The sick discovered hope. The broken found healing. The lonely found friendship. Sinners found mercy.
Their encounter with Christ became the beginning of a new life. That invitation has never changed.
Christ still calls each of us to know him, to trust him and to follow him. He also sends us into the world to become his hands and feet, serving others with compassion, kindness and love.
The Church has always understood this mission. Today, Pope Leo XIV has renewed that same Gospel call, encouraging Christians to build bridges through dialogue and encounter, reaching out with open hearts to a world that longs for hope.
This collection of reflections is not written by a theologian or an academic. It is written by an ordinary Catholic who, like everyone else, is still learning what it means to walk with Christ each day.
The purpose is simple.
To reflect on the Gospel.
To explore the richness of the Catholic faith.
To encourage one another.
To ask honest questions.
To discover how Christ speaks into the ordinary moments of everyday life.
Some reflections will challenge us. Others may comfort us. Some may make us smile. All are offered with one hope: that they help us draw a little closer to the One who first came looking for us.
If even one person feels encouraged to pray again, return to Mass, open the Scriptures, help a neighbour, forgive an old hurt or simply take one step nearer to Christ, then these pages will have served their purpose.
Perhaps you have arrived here by chance. Christians have another word for that.
Grace.
Thank you for visiting. I hope you will continue the journey through the reflections that follow—and that, somewhere along the way, you will encounter not simply words on a page, but the living Christ who continues to call each of us by name.
This page will be gradually populated with links to Johannes articles on the topic of Encounter
