About Us

St Charles Borromeo is a vibrant and prayerful Catholic community serving the heart of Hull and the surrounding area. Our parish brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, united by a shared desire to worship God, care for one another, and live the Gospel with generosity and hope. Alongside our main church at St Charles, our parish family includes two additional churches, each with its own history, strengths, and community spirit. Together, they form one parish with a single mission: to follow Christ and to serve our neighbour.

At the centre of parish life is our priest, who leads us in worship, offers the sacraments, preaches the Word of God, and supports parishioners at every stage of life. His pastoral leadership is complemented by the many lay people who help make the parish a welcoming and active place. From those who prepare the liturgy to those who read at Mass, support families, assist at funerals, look after the fabric of our buildings, or quietly help behind the scenes, the parish depends on the dedication and goodwill of countless volunteers. Their commitment ensures that the life of the parish remains strong, joyful and outward-looking.

We also give thanks for the ministries and groups that enrich parish life: catechists who prepare children and adults for the sacraments; musicians and singers who lift our worship; those who support the poor and housebound; those who steward, clean, arrange flowers, serve refreshments, welcome newcomers, or give time to practical tasks that often go unseen. Every contribution, whether large or small, helps to build up the Body of Christ in this place.

Our parish is also part of a wider Catholic family through the diocese, working in communion with neighbouring parishes, clergy, and communities. Together we share resources, support initiatives, and participate in diocesan celebrations that remind us we belong to something bigger than ourselves.
